Google Maps and local business data MCP
Who ranks in a city, what their profile says, and what their customers write.
Local promotion starts with the map. Your agent can pull the Google Maps results for a query in a city, read a business profile with hours, categories and rating, run the local finder to see who ranks in the pack, and read the reviews that decide where a customer goes.
Questions your agent can answer
- Which coffee shops rank for “coffee” in Google Maps near downtown Denver?
- What does this clinic's business profile list, and how is it rated?
- What do 1-star reviews of the top three competitors have in common?
The tools it calls
Every row is a tool in the catalogue, with the provider's description and a link to its public reference. Your agent finds them with prowl_search_tools and calls them with prowl_call_tool; each call is billed on its own.
| Tool | Provider | What it returns |
|---|---|---|
google_maps | SearchAPI.io | Google Maps search — find businesses and places with GPS coordinates, reviews, and contact info. |
google_maps_reviews | SearchAPI.io | Google Maps Reviews — user-generated reviews for businesses and places. Supports sorting, topic filtering via KGMID, and pagination. |
dataforseo_biz_google_my_business_info | DataForSEO | Get Google My Business profile info — address, phone, rating, hours, and description. |
dataforseo_serp_google_local_finder | DataForSEO | Get Google Local Finder results — detailed local business listings beyond the 3-pack. |
dataforseo_serp_google_maps | DataForSEO | Get Google Maps SERP results — top 100 local business listings for a keyword and location. |
Two ways to ask
Your agent. Add Prowl to Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any MCP client with one config block (the getting-started walkthrough has it), then ask in plain language. Under the hood the agent calls, for example, prowl_call_tool with tool_name: "google_maps".
Prowl Agent. Sign in at prowl.chat and ask the built-in agent the same question. It runs on the same tools and bills the same wallet.
When one call is not enough, ask for a report: Prowl plans the calls, checks numeric claims against independent tools and says what it could not confirm.
What it does not cover
Prowl reads public listings; it does not manage your Business Profile or reply to reviews. Local results depend on the location you pass, so ask for a city or coordinates rather than a region.
Frequently asked questions
Can Prowl update my Google Business Profile?
No. It reads public profiles and reviews and writes nothing.
Can it show local rankings for a specific city?
Yes. Maps and local finder calls take a location, so results match that city.
Does it return review text?
Yes, with ratings and dates, for Google Maps listings.
